KUCHING: The Sarawak Government is planning to open up 30 acres of land by developing affordable houses in Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh here to accommodate the growing population in the area.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he would request the Land and Survey Department Sarawak to look into the planning of 100 residential lots in the area.

“We may need to expand the villages. As mentioned by Tupong Assemblyman, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh are getting crowded. There are more families now.

“Therefore, we may need to build more houses for these areas like what we did in Segedup,” he said when officiating at the closing of the 2025 Sejijak Regatta at Kampung Sejijak jetty here today.

Abang Johari said the proposed housing development would follow a model similar to the housing project in Segedup, and each lot spanning approximately 12 points.

“The houses will be bungalows, and the government will bear the cost of infrastructure, including drainage, water and electricity.

“Buyers only need to pay a land premium of RM2,500 and the cost of the house itself,” he said.

He added that the new housing would be priced at RM150,000 per unit with the government covering the RM10,000 deposit.

“The remaining amount can be paid through a mortgage with Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd, estimated at around RM200 a month,” he said.

Abang Johari said homeowners under the housing scheme would gain assets valued at a minimum of RM350,000, including both the house and land.

“With such development, residents here need not move elsewhere, especially as we have already built roads in the area,” he said.

On a related note, he said the Sarawak Government has developed roads from Emart in Matang via the Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud Bridge up to Kampung Segedup.

“Therefore, we are looking at how to link Segedup, Emart so that the route to Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh becomes closer.

“If we have already developed Segedup with a road leading up to Emart via the Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud Bridge, then perhaps we can also build a road to Kampung Sejijak.

“That way, you won’t have to take such a long detour,” he said.

Earlier, Abang Johari also recalled his early days as a people’s representative, when one of his projects involved building roads connecting Malihah to Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh.

“Now, as your Premier, I will try to build one more road for Kampung Sejijak,” he said.
