SELANGAU: The government has approved a total of 30 communication towers in the Kakus area.

Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai said this while attending a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) programme in conjunction with the establishment of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) women’s bureau of Rumah Bigat Tanggai, Sungai Arip, Selangau last Saturday.

He said the government was concerned about the importance of telecommunication networks, especially for children who underwent online classes during the movement control order (MCO) period and unsatisfactory internet problems had caused the learning process to be disrupted, especially in rural areas.

Meanwhile, he said the application to upgrade the roads in the Ulu Arip area had been submitted by him to Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).

In the same ceremony, he announced a contribution of RM5,000 to the women’s bureau and RM26,000 to JKKK of Rumah Bigat Tanggai.
