SIBU: The “Program Sayangi Lanang: Jualan Kombo MADANI,” which was recently held on the premises of Sibu Yu Chiong (Grand Height) supermarket, Upper Lanang here, has received overwhelming support from the public.
Organised by Lanang Member of Parliament, Alice Lau’s P211 Service Centre, the initiative aimed at providing affordable essential goods to the community, a total of 300 food packages have been snapped up, each originally priced at RM44.15.
Through this initiative, the service centre provided special subsidies, allowing the public to purchase them for only RM30, a saving of up to 30 per cent.
Each food package included a pack of white sugar, cooking oil, rice, as well as instant noodles, biscuits, a tray of eggs (10pcs), dark soya sauce, canned corn, canned curry chicken and canned sardines.
In addition, the supermarket also fulfilled its corporate social responsibility by giving away a bottle of soy sauce for free to the public who purchased the subsidised packages.
A press release from the service centre yesterday (Aug 19) stated that Lau plans to continue hosting the programme at various supermarkets within the Lanang constituency, aiming to help ease the financial burden of the people.
The initiative is one of Lau’s efforts to support the community, enabling Sibu residents to purchase essential goods at prices 10 per cent to 30 per cent lower than the market rate.
“It has been warmly welcomed by the community and is seen as a valuable step in assisting households in managing their daily expenses,” the statement added.
