MIRI: A total of 175 Indonesian nationals, including 32 children, were detained during a multi-agency immigration enforcement operation at a workers’ housing settlement in Linau Mewah Estate, Jalan Lambir here recently.
The operation, codenamed Ops Mega, saw enforcement officers screen 250 foreign nationals, with 175 suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said those detained comprised 90 men, 53 women and 32 children.
“The operation, led by the Sarawak Immigration Department’s Miri Enforcement Unit, began at about 11.35pm on Tuesday (Jul 15) and concluded at around 4am the following day.


“All detainees were taken to the Bekenu Immigration Depot for further investigation and further action,” it said.
A total of 57 enforcement personnel took part in the operation, alongside officers from the Labour Department (JTK), National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), Police Marine Force and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).
The detainees were suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department said it would continue carrying out integrated enforcement operations to ensure compliance with immigration laws and curb the presence of illegal immigrants in the state.
