LAWAS: A total of 32 councillors of the Lawas District Council were sworn into office for the 2025 to 2028 term during an official ceremony held recently.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman, stressed the importance of councillors’ roles in the local government administrative system, which serves as the backbone of grassroots development.
In addition, he urged all councillors to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, teamwork spirit, and a strong sense of trust in the mandate they have been given.
“I hope all appointed councillors will work closely with the council administration and other agencies to successfully implement various policies and development programmes.
“We want balanced development that covers aspects such as social welfare, the economy, health, women, youth, and more.”
He also announced several major development initiatives to be implemented in Lawas, including the construction of a new jetty to serve as a port, the first phase of the airport construction, a water treatment plant at Sungai Lawas Damit, and improvements to road and telecommunication infrastructure, which are expected to boost local investment and economic growth.
The swearing-in ceremony concluded with the presentation of appointment certificates to the councillors.
Also present were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong; Batu Danau assemblyman Datuk Paulus@Palu Gumbang and Limbang Division Resident Unus Tambi.
