32 detained in drug raids

MIRI: Thirty-two locals were detained during ‘Ops Bersepadu’ raids held at seven separate locations in Bekenu district here on Friday.

According to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Miri chief Mazlan Jikran, the suspects all men were aged between 13 and 50 were nabbed during raids on the seven locations.

The seven locations were Kampung Kayu Kapur, Kampung Angus, Kampung Satap, Kampung Kawang Baru, Kampung Subak, Kampung Keluru Tengah and Kampung Tiris.

The operation begun at 11pm on Friday and ended at 5.30am on Saturday.

The suspects brought to AADK building in Krokop, Miri.

Mazlan added that four government agencies were involved in the operation namely AADK (Miri, Bintulu and Limbang), Bekenu Police, Rela and Resident Committee.

“Out of the 32 nabbed, 26 were tested positive for drugs,” he said.

The 26 tested positive for drugs will be charged under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act, 1983.
