32 evacuated as floodwaters swamp squatter houses

BINTULU: Thirty-two individuals were evacuated after floodwaters up to six feet deep inundated their squatter houses early this morning (Mar 31).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kidurong station were dispatched to the scene near Sungai Plan Bridge, Jalan Tanjung Kidurong, following an emergency call at 2.26 am.

Upon arrival, they found five squatter houses submerged and its residents in need of evacuation.

Firefighters used boats to transport the victims from their house to a safer place.

No temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation concluded at 4.47 am.
