KUCHING: Back-to-back immigration operations across two districts ended with 34 foreigners in handcuffs for suspected immigration offences.
The two-day operation, held around Kuching and Kota Samarahan on Sept 22 and 23, involved a 37-member team from the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division targeting foreigners believed to be working without valid permits or passes.
A total of 96 individuals were inspected for their documentations and of the figure, 34 were taken into custody.
They consist of 21 men and 13 women, and are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for various offences.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said the series of checks reflected its continuous efforts to ensure foreigners comply with the terms of their stay in the state.
The public is also urged to report any suspicious activities involving undocumented migrants in their areas to help safeguard community safety and national security.
