PUTRAJAYA: A total of 34 media organisations registered with the Information Department have received RM10.3 million in funding under Phase 1 of the Media Innovation Fund, said Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the RM30 million fund announced by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in conjunction with National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2025 received an encouraging response from media organisations.

“A total of 50 applications were received (under Phase 1 of the Media Innovation Fund), reflecting the level of confidence and readiness among industry players to move towards more progressive transformation.

“Of that number, 34 media organisations were approved, with total funding amounting to RM10.3 million,” he told a press conference after the Cabinet meeting here on Friday.

Fahmi said applications for Phase 2 of the Media Innovation Fund, which was opened from Feb 9 to 22, also showed positive momentum with the participation of 19 media organisations.

He said applications for Phase 3 of the Media Innovation Fund will be open from March 1 to 14.

“This development demonstrates the industry players’ commitment to continue innovating and adapting their business models to current needs and realities,” he said.

According to Fahmi, the fund is not only aimed at strengthening the capabilities of media organisations through the adoption of new technologies, development of quality content, and enhancement of workforce skills, but also serves as a catalyst for a more sustainable, progressive and competitive media ecosystem.

He said the government is confident that this initiative will create more opportunities for media organisations to grow and contribute to the delivery of accurate, ethical and high-quality information to the people. – BERNAMA
