SIBU: Thirty-four participants of the Family Wellbeing Skills Education Class (PKK) P.212 Sibu received certificates and awards during a special ceremony at a restaurant here recently.
The participants consisted of the Community Development Department (KEMAS) PKK Class at Rumah Suria Amat, Rantau Panjang, Rumah Bungan Jaya, Jalan Oya Lama and Tanjung Bekakap, Batang Lebaan.
The ceremony, officiated by Sibu Division Iban Community Paramount Chief, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar, was also attended by Pemanca Paing Tawi and the Sibu Division KEMAS Officer, Ami Fariza Mat Jusoh.
Stanley Gramong, in his speech, hoped the class could be continued to ensure that adults would have the opportunity to follow the co-curriculum provided by KEMAS.
According to him, the PKK class, which focuses on skills such as sewing, crafts, cake and kuih making and other skills, can produce successful entrepreneurs and generate income.
“Therefore, I really hope and call on everyone to continue to support the efforts made by the government to develop and improve the skills of the community,” he said.
He also believed that the programme was one of the most anticipated events by the certificate recipients because all the efforts made by the teachers and participants received recognition from KEMAS.
Meanwhile, Ami Fariza in her speech, said the PKK class was rebranded from the Home Economics (ERT) programme and expanded with activities that focused on strengthening the family institution.
Apart from that, she said the programme also helped the community to be more positive, proactive and productive to achieve excellence through the activities of preparing and serving, processing and producing food commercially.
“The main objective of this PKK Class is to provide quality and recognised training and skills to empower rural families economically.
“In addition, this programme is to form a rural community that is confident, competitive and independent to increase the economic resources of rural families and longhouse communities with the target group of women, housewives and teenagers,” she said.
Ami Fariz also thanked the longhouse chiefs involved for allowing KEMAS to implement the PKK Class in their respective longhouses, in addition to providing support to KEMAS in any activities involving longhouse residents.
