KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 3,487 new students comprising 3,315 undergraduates and 172 post graduate students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) took part in an oath-taking ceremony at DeTAR Putra Hall, Unimas, yesterday.
They are the September intake 2017/2018 session and they will also take part in an orientation week from 5 to 10 September.
Some of the new students are from Australia, Indonesia, Brunei, Yemen, Egypt, Sudan and Morocco.
The oath-taking ceremony was graced by Assistant Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanga Linggi, who also the Mentor Minister of Unimas.
“Congratulations to the new students for being part of Unimas here. It is the kick start for you to set your goal and step up your efforts to achieve success in your life.
“Make your parents proud and stay relevant and be relevant in this challenging era regardless of your background,” Nanta said in his welcoming speech.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Unimas, Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi welcomed and congratulated the new students who have been selected among the many applications.
“Among those selected are five special needs students. Unimas has disabled-friendly facilities which are specifically built for this group to attend classes and other university activities,” said Professor Kadim.
He also disclosed that the student intake was the first group to undergoing the architecture and psychology courses.
