KUCHING: Thirty-five houses in Batu Kitang area have been repaired under the Phase 1 of Program Penambahbaikan Rumah Miskin Sarawak (PPRMS).
According to a statement today, this Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) programme aims to assist the poor households who need a proper and safer shelter.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced an allocation of RM1 million to each of the 72 GPS assemblymen to carry out repair and rebuilding of houses and longhouses in their respective constituencies.
This programme was decided upon to mitigate the cut in federal project funds approved by the previous federal administration.
“Households in the B40 group registered under the e-Kasih are eligible to receive this assistance with a maximum amount of repair works of RM15,000 by appointed contractors or on ‘gotong-royong’ basis.
“For Batu Kitang area, its service centre committees, village headmen as well as the village development and security committees (JKKK) will identify, select and decide the type repair works to be done,” said the statement.

It added phase 2 of the project would commence after Hari Raya. The committees have identified over 30 poor households eligible for the assistance in Kampung Betong, Kampung Sandong, Kampung Tematu, Kampung Semeba, Kampung Bukit Panchor and Jalan Batu Kitang area.
Earlier today, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang handed over the newly repaired houses to four families in Kampung Bumbok.
The recipients, Ani Nois, Peet Jotem, Beer Katut and Kumeh Lojap, expressed their gratitude to Abang Johari and Lo for the being helpful to them.
