LAWAS: A total of 350 families and 325 students here benefited from PETRONAS welfare initiatives in conjunction with the Christmas celebration and preparations for the 2026 school session.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan expressed his appreciation to PETRONAS for the company’s active role in supporting social development, particularly in Sarawak.
“Lawas as the location for the distribution of Christmas food baskets and school necessities is in line with efforts to empower the community in a more holistic manner,” he said in his speech at the aid handover event held at Hotel Seri Malaysia here on Friday.
He also emphasised that social inclusivity is a key element of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which focuses on ensuring that no group is left behind, especially the B40 community and residents in rural areas.
“The programmes implemented by PETRONAS clearly support the state government’s aspirations to deliver sustainable value to the people of Sarawak,” he added.
Awang Tengah described PETRONAS’ efforts as a model for corporate entities in driving inclusive and sustainable community development, while generating long-term positive impacts on public well-being.
He expressed hope that the assistance provided would help ease the burden on families ahead of Christmas, and assist students in making early preparations for the new school term.
The initiative involved close cooperation between PETRONAS, the Lawas Division Social Welfare Department, and the Sarawak State Education Department, Lawas District, ensuring that the aid was channeled directly to the intended recipients.
This integrated approach not only strengthened social support networks but also reinforced strategic ties between the government and the corporate sector.
The programme once again reflects PETRONAS’ continued commitment to enhancing the well-being of rural communities, while fostering a spirit of togetherness among the local population ahead of the festive season.
