KUCHING: The stage is set for a high-octane showdown as 350 fighters from across Southeast Asia gather for the Muaythai Piala TYT Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak and Borneo Cup 2026 at the Kuching Waterfront next week.

The 10th edition of the tournament takes place from Apr 16 to 19, with more than 100 bouts across professional and amateur categories scheduled for the muaythai spectacle.

Participants from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Brunei have confirmed their entries, alongside 28 clubs from Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.

Sarawak Muay Thai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim said the tournament continues to attract strong participation each year.

“The tournament has consistently received encouraging participation, including from countries in Southeast Asia.

“This shows that the event is gaining recognition and has placed Sarawak on the muaythai map,” he said.

The competition also serves as a platform for Sarawak athletes to sharpen their skills ahead of the Malaysia Games in Selangor this August.

Jumaat added that the Borneo Cup will continue this year following strong response from clubs across the island.

“It serves as a platform to strengthen ties among Borneo participants while encouraging youth involvement in healthy sporting activities,” he added.
