BALINGIAN: A pre-dawn raid by the Sarawak Immigration Department turned up dozens of undocumented workers hiding in factories, ending with 36 men led away in handcuffs.

Codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’, the operation was carried out by an 18-member special task force at around 1 am yesterday (Oct 28).

The raid targeted two factories in the area, which have been suspected of employing illegal foreign labour.

Officers combed through the premises and screened a total of 114 individuals of various nationalities.

After thorough documentation checks, 36 foreign men were found to have committed various immigration offences and were detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

They were later transported to Sibu Immigration Office for further investigation.

The department said the successful raid reflects their ongoing commitment against illegal employment and harbouring of undocumented migrants.

Continuous enforcement will be carried out from time to time to protect the safety and sovereignty of Sarawak.
