KUCHING: Sarawak’s first batch of 36 Air Scouts received their wings on Saturday marking a historic milestone in youth development and the Scouting movement.
The Sarawak Air Scout presentation ceremony was a momentous event celebrating the dedication, discipline and perseverance of these young pioneers, who are now officially recognised as Sarawak’s first Junior Leading Airmen under the Air Scout programme.
Their achievements set a powerful precedent for future cohorts, highlighting the growing strength of Air Scouting in East Malaysia.
“This is a proud moment not only for the 36 recipients but for the entire Scouting community in Sarawak. These youth have demonstrated excellence in aviation knowledge, leadership and discipline – key pillars of the Air Scout programme.
“Their accomplishment is a testament to what is possible when youth development is nurtured with passion and purpose,” the Sarawak Air Scouts Secretariat said in a statement.
The ceremony was attended by prominent Scout leaders including Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim, deputy Chief Commissioner Methodius Macdonald, SPUS advisor Captain Zainuddin and Regional Commissioner Azizah.
During the event, five new Certified Air Scout Leaders were officially recognised bringing the total number of certified leaders in Sarawak to six.
“These leaders play a crucial role in guiding and expanding the programme across the region. Additionally, outstanding academic achievements among Scouts, particularly in the SPM examinations, were acknowledged, reinforcing the idea that Scouting complements both academic and character development,” it said.
The ceremony represents more than a celebration; it signals the rise of a new generation of youth who are taking flight, both literally and metaphorically, in their journey of personal growth and service.
