KUCHING: A three-day narcotics operation across the district has resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals and the seizure of suspected methamphetamine and ketum juice worth nearly RM8,000.
The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas’, was carried out from Jan 25 to 27 as part of intensified efforts to curb drug distribution and abuse in the city.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said those arrested were linked to various drug-related offences.
“Two of those detained are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the most severe penalties – death or life imprisonment.

“The remaining 26 were taken into custody under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption-related offences,” he said.

During the operation, police also seized 65.85g of suspected methamphetamine and 63 litres of ketum juice – all of which are valued at around RM7,873.
Alexson said the operation’s success was driven by sustained intelligence-gathering and public cooperation, adding that police would not compromise with anyone involved in drug-related activities.
