TAIPING, Perak: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has received a total of 398,671 registrations for Year One admission in 2027 as of Monday (March 9), said Deputy Minister of Education, Wong Kah Woh.

Wong said of the total, 338,714 were for students aged seven while 59,957 involved admissions at the age of six.

“At the end of this month, we will get the final statistics or registration and from there we can verify the actual figures or the actual demand regarding which schools need how many additional classrooms.

“But that doesn’t mean that we currently don’t have any plans…no. Indeed, for schools that have trends and tradition of attracting more student enrolment, we are ready with our mapping, but our mapping will be finalised by the end of this month,” he said.

He said this when met at the Ministry of Education’s ‘Jaulah Ramadan’ Programme’s press conference at the Maahad Al-Tarbiah, Al-Islamiah Government Aided Religious School here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Wong said the recruitment of 20,000 new Grade DG9 Education Service Officers on contract service (CoS) this month is a short-term measure to meet the needs of teaching staff following the expected increase in Year One students in 2027.

He said the recruitment targets university graduates who do not have professional education qualification and aims to ensure that schools have sufficient teaching staff when additional students are admitted.

Wong said the measure was taken following the expected double cohort situation when six-year-old students begin entering Year One in 2027.

“We estimate there will be a double cohort situation from which it doesn’t matter in terms of infrastructure, availability of classrooms or availability of teachers, we already have a plan,” he said. – BERNAMA

PUTRAJAYA: Young national rider, Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli, is ready to review the new circuit in Brazil ahead of the second round of the World Motorcycle Championship (MotoGP) Grand Prix (GP) this season.

The racer, better known as Hakim Danish, said he had studied the video of the circuit to understand the character of the track at Autodromo Internacional de Goiania – Ayrton Senna since it is his first time competing at the circuit as well as most of the riders.

“For Brazil, this is a new track for everyone and I have also watched it on my phone and I am studying from there. I also saw that the track is quite good and I hope to get good results,” he said at the media breaking fast ceremony with MKA Group here on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old rider said his main focus now is to improve several weaknesses identified after the season-opening race in Thailand.

“I can see there is still a lot of room for me to improve in the first race in Thailand, including my riding and also the setup on the motorcycle,” he said.

He said that the motorcycle setup aspects, especially the chassis and handling when braking, are among the things that need to be improved.

The second round of the World Motorcycle Championship season is scheduled to take place at Autodromo Internacional de Goiania – Ayrton Senna in Brazil from March 20 to 22. – BERNAMA
