KUCHING: Police arrested a 40-year-old local man and seized over five grammes of suspected methamphetamine during a raid at Kampung Kudei Baru here on Thursday (Feb 19).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest was made at about 9.50 pm by a team from the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.
He said police found one transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine weighing 5.02 grammes, with an estimated street value of RM552.
“Initial urine screening tests conducted on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in a statement.
Checks revealed that the suspect has two previous criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect has been remanded for four days from Feb 21 to Feb 24 to assist in investigations.
Alexson said the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence efforts and public cooperation.
