SARIKEI: The reappointment of community and ethnic leaders (KMKK) marks a significant milestone in the government’s recognition of grassroots leadership within the state.
A total of 41 KMKK in Repok constituency received reappointment certificates on Friday in a KMKK Reappointment Notice Presentation event that took place at the Sarawak Government Administrative Centre Sarikei Division.
Repok state assemblyman and Sarikei Member of Parliament, Datuk Sri Huang Tiong Sii, emphasised that the event represented the government’s confidence in and acknowledgement of grassroots leadership, which is essential to the stability and harmony of the community, rather than just witnessing presentation of certificates.
“The Sarawak Government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is always committed to empowering leadership at the grassroots level,” he said.
Huang, who is also the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, asserted that the government’s decision to increase KMKK allowances reflects genuine concern and recognition of their role, responsibilities and significant contributions in delivering services and safeguarding the welfare of the people at the community level.
“The enhanced allowances are intended not only as appreciation for the service and sacrifice of KMKK members, but also as motivation to continue carrying out their duties with greater dedication, integrity and effectiveness in serving their communities,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Resident of Sarikei Division, Datuk Michael Ronnie Langgong, for his leadership and commitment in strengthening administrative governance and cooperation between the Resident’s Office, District Office and community leadership.
Huang pointed out that all appointed KMKK should carry out their trust fairly, honestly and with integrity, and cooperate closely with all government agencies for the benefit of the people.
Also present at the ceremony was Sarikei District Officer, Louis Yeo Soon Guan, underscoring the importance of the event in strengthening ties between government administration and community leadership.
