KUCHING: In conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations, a total of 41 cows were sacrificed in the Demak Laut constituency for distribution to the ‘asnaf’ (underprivileged) and local villagers.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) today, the ‘korban’ (ritual sacrifice) programme was carried out over two days starting on 10 Zulhijjah.
“It involved active participation from village communities, mosques, suraus and PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) chapter.
“On the first day, 17 cows were sacrificed, followed by another 24 on the second day, bringing the total to 41 cows.
“The programme not only reflected the Islamic community’s obedience to religious obligations but also served as a platform to strengthen the spirit of cooperation, unity and solidarity among the local residents,” it said.
Demak Laut Assemblyman, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, was present at several locations to observe and engage with the community members involved in the management and execution of the ‘korban’ programme.
“I truly appreciate the efforts and commitment of all involved, from mosque and ‘surau’ staff to the volunteers, who ensured that the entire ‘korban’ process ran smoothly and efficiently.
“More importantly, this programme directly benefits those in need, especially the ‘asnaf’ and village residents in the Demak Laut constituency,” he said.
He added that the ‘korban’ ritual is more than just an annual tradition, as it carries messages of sacrifice, compassion and social solidarity that should be upheld at all times.
“With the full participation of the community, this year’s ‘korban’ programme in Demak Laut was not only lively and meaningful but also strengthened social bonds and had a direct positive impact on community well-being,” he said.
