KUCHING: A total of 45 participants from the Semariang constituency have come together to participate in a bonsai workshop and entrepreneurship programme.
These events were organised by the Kuching Community College.
Of these participants, 15 were from the B40 category, comprising single mothers and senior citizens. They were part of the Community Entrepreneurship Development Programme (PPKK). Meanwhile, the rest of the group included youth, Saberkas members, villagers, and Bonsai Club members.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Syed Aman Ghazali highlighted the importance of community entrepreneurship, pointing out that it boosts the local and national economy.
“Our communities can grab new business chances and uplift their local economy. Over time, this uplifts our national economy and taps into the potential of our local resources.”
“I’m pleased to see the talent and potential that these programmes can unlock,” she said.
She said this in a speech delivered by the Kuching Community College director, Sumbang Mandaw, during the closing ceremony of the PPKK and Cement Pot Bonsai Skill Programme at Kampung Samariang Batu Hall here today (Sept 10).
Encouraging skill enhancement, the Semariang assemblywoman, suggested people look into skill courses by government entities and community colleges.
“Acquiring more skills can boost one’s income,” she added.
The workshop was a joint effort between the Samariang Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s wing, community leaders, and the Saberkas Samariang Batu Branch.
Also present was Saberkas Samariang Batu branch chairman Muhammad Izzul Zikri Khasri.
