SIBU: A total of 45 primary and secondary school teachers successfully completed the World Athletics Coaches Education Certification System Level 1 -Hybrid course which concluded at the Sibu Indoor Stadium on Friday.
The course, which began from October 13 to 17, was jointly organised by Sibu Division Amateur Athletic Association (SDAAA) and Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).
According to SDAAA Secretary, Ting Siew Nguong, the main aim of the course was to upgrade the knowledge of the active local coaches and to expose them to the latest trends in athletic coaching.
This course, he added, also gave them a chance to own a certificate that is recognised by World Athletics, meaning recognised worldwide.


He said the course composes of two parts, the first part is e-learning whereby the participants are required to complete all the online modules before they are eligble to take part in the second part of the course, done physically.
The course, he revealed was conducted by a qualified World Athletics lecturer, Roselyn Japson Hamero from the Philippines, currently serving as head coach of the University of Philippines, apart from Abang Sapani Sarbini, a qualified Athletics lecturer who is now attached to Terengganu Sports School and Lim Teck Leong, a full time coach under SSC.
Meanwhile on Friday night, SDAAA hosted a Thank you dinner for sponsors and officials as well as the course participants at a prominent hotel here. Also present were SDAAA president, Dr Gregory Hii and Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie.
