MIRI: Eight working papers will be tabled by academicians and counselling practitioners from West Malaysia, Sarawak and Brunei Darusalam at a two-day national level family counselling symposium than began here Wednesday.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri hoped the symposium would further expand the network of cooperation between counselling practitioners and further strengthen the services provided from time to time to achieve a prosperous Malaysia.
Her speech was read by National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) director-general Abdul Shukur Abdullah.
The symposium is being held held in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Council in conjunction with the State’s 60th independence anniversary.
Themed ‘Keluarga Sejahtera Abad 21′, it is aimed at strengthening family counselors’ knowledge and enhance their skills in rendering their services to help solve household problems.
“The family back in the 1960s and today is different, back in those days, our lives were not as complex as today,” she said.
She believed that via this programme , intervention from the counsellors, will help households solve their problems and overcome challenges.
Also present was Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department (JAIS) deputy director Ahmad Sukarno Saini who represented Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datum Misnu Taha.
A total 450 people are participating in the programme.
