KUCHING: A total of 473 kilogrammes of waste were collected during the ‘Gotong-Royong Perdana Kampung Bako Seberang’ event held at the grounds of Surau Darul Ibadah, Bako today (Feb 8) .
The programme, which began at 7.00 am, involved about 150 residents of Kampung Bako Seberang, including children of all ages, alongside 30 students from i-CATS College University who joined as volunteers.
The event started with a ‘senamrobik’ session to energise participants, followed by the official flag-off of the ‘gotong-royong’.
Residents and students worked together to clean their surrounding areas, promoting environmental awareness and community spirit.

A highlight of the programme was the waste collection competition, which encouraged participants to gather as much rubbish as possible, adding a competitive and engaging element to the community effort.
Prizes, in the form of hampers, were awarded in three categories, namely men, women and children, recognising those who contributed the most to keeping the village clean.
According to a Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) statement, the ‘Gotong-Royong Perdana’ event was organised as a continuous initiative to strengthen the spirit of togetherness among local residents, while promoting environmental cleanliness and awareness.
It said that the programme also aimed to instil positive habits and foster a sense of shared responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
Also present was DBKU Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman.
