SARIKEI: A four-wheel drive vehicle awaiting repairs was partially destroyed in a fire at the bus terminal along Jalan Nyelong Bypass late Tuesday night.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call regarding the incident at 11.10pm and dispatched a team from the Sarikei fire station to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a Mitsubishi Pajero already about 50 per cent burnt, with the fire mainly affecting the engine compartment.

The vehicle had been parked temporarily near a workshop for repairs.

However, members of the public managed to put out the blaze before the firefighters arrived.

Firefighters then conducted a size-up and used one hose line to fully extinguish any remaining fire to prevent reignition.

No casualties were reported. The owner of the vehicle has yet to be identified.
