5 more PPS closed, active PPS drop to 15

KUCHING: Five more temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sarawak were closed today (Feb 9), making the total number of active PPS reduced to 15.

The closed PPS are SMK Sebauh in Sebauh, SMK Bekenu in Subis, Kanowit Sports Complex, SJK (C) Tong Ah in Selangau, and Selangau Multipurpose Hall.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the number of evacuees in PPS also dropped from 3,639 evacuees on Saturday to 2,072 evacuees on Sunday.

Despite the decreased number in evacuees seeking refuge, there was still an increase of landslide victims at Dewan Kampung Sukan in Miri.

As at 5 pm, the number of displaced individuals affected by landslides in Miri stood at 159 evacuees, an increase of nine individuals compared to Saturday’s figure.
