MUKAH: A five-year-old boy was killed while his teenage cousin sustained injuries following a hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles at Kilometre 21, Jalan Mukah-Balingian, on Friday night.

The incident occurred at 7:00 pm when the motorcycle, ridden by a 17-year-old boy from the direction of Balingian, was attempting to turn into Kampung Penipah junction.

Mukah Police chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the motorcycle was rear-ended by a vehicle believed to be a car.

“The impact of the collision caused the young boy, who was riding pillion, to sustain head injuries. He was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Mukah Hospital,” he said in a statement.

He added that the teenager, who is the boy’s cousin, sustained injuries to his face and leg, and is reported to be in stable condition.

“Police are now tracking down the driver and vehicle involved, who fled the scene after the incident and yet to come forward to lodge a report.

“Those who witnessed the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Rahmat Jalimin, at 011-31627137 or report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
