KUCHING: A coordinated operation across the city led to the detention of 52 foreigners after immigration officers acted on suspicions that they were being employed or sheltered illegally.
The two-day sweep, carried out from Jan 20 to 21, saw 31 officers moving in on 16 locations to verify the immigration status of those found on the ground.
Among the locations targeted were commercial areas in Demak, an apartment construction site along Jalan Hup Kee, and several food and beverage outlets at TT3 Commercial Centre, believed to be employing or harbouring undocumented foreign workers.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said inspections uncovered multiple immigration offences involving the 52 foreign nationals.
All of them were detained for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department stated that enforcement activities will be intensified to ensure strict compliance with immigration laws, warning that such violations could pose risks to public safety and public order.
Members of the public are advised to report any information to the department to assist ongoing enforcement efforts.
