SERIAN: Firefighters came to the aid of a schoolgirl this morning (Jan. 11), whose journey to a new chapter in her education was nearly derailed after floodwaters cut off access in Taman Kucinta, Jalan Serian-Sri Aman.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 8.30 am and dispatched a team to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the student and her parents stranded inside their house, unable to reach the main road as floodwater had inundated the neighbourhood.

The distance from the house to the road was about 500 metres, with water levels reaching around three feet deep.

Acting swiftly, firefighters deployed a rescue boat to ferry the girl and her parents safely through the flooded stretch to a waiting vehicle on the main road.

The student was reportedly on her way to Kuching to complete her school registration process at MRSM Kuching.

After ensuring the student and her parents reached the vehicle, the team ended the rescue operation at 9.10 am.
