583 underprivileged children get school aid and haircut

KUCHING: The YKABPRENEUR tour, held alongside the Back To School programme across various regions in Sarawak, has successfully benefited 583 underprivileged children receiving the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) from Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).

TBS general manager, Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, said that the programme not only provided school essentials but also offered free haircut services.

“The initiative was supported by alumni of the Akademi Latihan Insan (ALI), who had gained skills from training courses aimed at empowering underprivileged groups,” he said.

He said this after officiating at the closing ceremony of YKABPRENEUR tour, held alongside Back To School and Free Haircut Service Programme at the Majma Mall here today (Feb 15).

For the record, the tour began in Limbang on February 1 and continued through Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Sibu, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Serian, and Kota Samarahan, before concluding in Kuching on February 16.

Meanwhile, regarding the programme, Abang Mohd Shibli distributed school bags and supplies to 160 underprivileged children to assist with their school preparations.

A symbolic handover of donations was also conducted for 10 recipients who were present.

Additionally, he officiated at the symbolic launch of the free haircut service for those involved.

For the record, as of January 2025, TBS has distributed a total of RM8.30 million to eligible asnaf through its four main programmes which are the Strengthening the Tradition of Knowledge Programme, the Development of Islamic Institutions Programme, the Ummah Welfare Enhancement Programme, and the Ummah Skills Improvement Programme.
