SARKEI: Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC), with support from Kenyalang Dev, successfully hosted ‘Game Dev Jam: Design, Create & Compete! Sarikei 2025’, a three-day digital creativity challenge, from November 28 to 30.

The programme introduced 60 participants, forming 16 teams of secondary school students, university undergraduates and adult learners, to key digital skills such as UI/UX design using Figma and basic game development.

Participants were also encouraged to solve real-world problems through gamification, nurturing creativity and critical thinking.

Chief product officer of Youthopia and a mentor for the event, Nathalia Lim, praised the participants.

“We were very impressed with the various game ideas that these participants came up with in such a short time. Their enthusiasm to learn new skills was also encouraging to see.

“We look forward to seeing what amazing things these participants, especially the younger students, will come up with in the future,” she said.

Over the three days, participants attended workshops, rapid prototyping sessions, mentoring and developed game concepts around the theme “Safety.”

From the 16 teams, three emerged as winners: First Place – µSleep Production (Maid Escape), Second Place – Safe-T Squad (Chaos Control), and Third Place – Am I Right.

SIC said that the programme reflects its ongoing commitment to bridging the digital gap in rural Sarawak and inspiring youth to explore careers in technology, game design and digital innovation.

The centre plans to continue hosting skill-building and innovation-focused initiatives to strengthen Sarikei’s position as a growing hub for technology and creative industries in central Sarawak.
