MIRI : Sixty underprivileged children here received a clearer view of the world yesterday (April 13), thanks to a charitable initiative by local optical provider, Degree By Optometrist.

These children are selected from various schools here and Hamidah Orphanage Complex.

The free reading glasses were distributed as part of an annual programme held during the Syawal month since 2021.

The initiative aimed to assist children with vision problems whose families were unable to afford proper eyewear.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, who was present to hand over the spectacles, praised the effort, describing it as a meaningful contribution to the well-being of children in need.

“This initiative not only improves the quality of life for these young ones but also supports their education. I hope more organisations will follow in these footsteps,” he said.

Also in attendance were Deputy Miri Mayor Ariffin Mohamad, Miri branch chairman of the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber Mohammad Hafidz Rohani, and Degree By Optometrist founders Nur Syahirah Barhan and Wong Sie Hock.
