SARIKEI: As part of the ongoing DSH School Bag Programme, another round of school bag distribution to primary and secondary students across Sarikei was done today, with 604 school bags distributed.
The initiative is part of a continuous effort by the Federal Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok state assemblyman, to ease the burden of families.
It is also meant to encourage students as they prepare for the new academic year, benefitting students from 10 schools in the area.
The schools are SJK Su Kwong, SJK Siung Hua, SK Selangan, SJK Minar, SJK Nam Kiew, SJK Ming Tak, SK Rentap, SJK Bulat, SJK Kiew Mang, and SJK Sze Lu.
Since taking office, Huang has actively focused on improving educational infrastructure while ensuring the well-being of students remains a key priority.
“Young people are the nation’s most valuable asset. It is our responsibility to guide and support them in every possible way,” he said.
The distribution programme was carried out by the Sarikei Service Centre team, led by Penghulu Huang Tiong Kang and accompanied by Kapitan Lau Ing Liong along with committee members from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sarikei Branch, who visited each of the 10 schools to personally hand over the school bags.
