61 nabbed in January drug crackdown across Sarikei, Tanjung Manis, Belawai

SARIKEI: A total of 61 individuals were arrested in January during a series of Op Tapis operations conducted across Sarikei, Tanjung Manis and Belawai.

Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said those detained included three suspected drug traffickers investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

“Fifteen individuals were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs, while two others were detained under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 for allegedly possessing ketum drink for sale,” he said.

In addition, 41 individuals were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.

Meanwhile, 13 repeat offenders were sentenced under Section 39C(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, receiving five years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane.
