MIRI: A total of 62 families in Upper Lutong Sealine Village are benefiting from the installation of street lamps, a project aimed at enhancing safety and security in the area.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Sebastian Ting said the RM100,000 project is being carried out under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to address residents’ concerns over poor lighting.
“The initiative was taken following numerous concerns from residents about their safety, particularly when moving around at night,” he said during a site inspection of the installation works on Wednesday (Mar 12).
“With 18 streetlights being installed, we hope this village will be safer, not only for pedestrians but also for drivers using this route at night,” he added.
Previously, poor lighting conditions in the village raised concerns over accidents and crime, but the issue is expected to be resolved once the project is completed on 5 May.
Ting, who is also the Piasau assemblyman, revealed plans to secure funding for a multipurpose hall in the village.
“The hall will later be used for community activities, as well as benefiting residents in terms of physical and mental health,” he said, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure for the well-being of the people.
