KUCHING: Sixty-three individuals of various foreign nationalities were arrested during a two-day immigration operation earlier this week.
Codenamed ‘Ops Jaja’, ‘Ops Selera’ and ‘Ops Sapu’, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division raided several locations around Matang, MJC Batu Kawa and Bau from Sept 29 to 30.
Those detained were found to have committed various immigration offences, including entering and remaining in the country without valid passes, overstaying, and harbouring or protecting undocumented migrants.
Sarawak Immigration Department said the case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c), Section 15(1)(c), and Section 56(1)(l) under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The department said the success of the operation reflected the department’s ongoing commitment to curb illegal immigration and ensure strict compliance with immigration laws.
Such efforts are deemed vital to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and public security.
Members of the public are advised to continue channelling information on undocumented migrants to the authorities as community cooperation is crucial in ensuring Malaysia remains free from immigration law violations.
