MIRI: A 65-year-old local man has been arrested after allegedly trespassing into two neighbouring residential properties in Taman Desa Seri, Pujut, in the early hours of Friday.

The incident, which unfolded on May 16, was captured on closed-circuit television footage showing the suspect scaling the front gate of one of the houses before he was apprehended by an on-duty security guard.

Police said the man was believed to have entered the compounds of both homes but did not manage to flee with any valuables.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly trespassed into a second adjacent property shortly before his arrest.

Officers also seized a face mask and clothing believed to have been worn by the suspect during the incident as part of their investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for three days until May 20 while investigations continue under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass.

The offence carries a penalty of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of RM3,000, or both upon conviction.

Police praised the swift action of members of the public and the security personnel involved, noting that community vigilance and cooperation remain vital in curbing crime in residential neighbourhoods.

The case remains under investigation.
