ASAJAYA: The Sarawak government, through the Land and Survey Department (JTS), handed over a total of 66 land titles to villagers in the traditional settlement of Kampung Moyan Laut, yesterday.
The handover ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim, who is also the assemblyman for Asajaya, said that the handover process was part of the ongoing efforts by JTS, which not only involved Kampung Moyan but extended throughout the whole of Sarawak.
“As the local representative here, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Sarawak government and JTS for their commitment in surveying land, particularly in traditional village areas.
“We are well aware that land surveying is a difficult task, so when this effort succeeds, landowners are able to obtain their own land titles,” he said when commenting on the ceremony.
At the same time, Abdul Karim conveyed his gratitude to the Sarawak government for its efforts in ensuring that the people were able to obtain their rightful land titles.
The land titles, issued under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, are provided free of charge to landowners as the government bears all costs related to the surveying process. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to ease the financial burden of the people, particularly those living in the rural areas.
When asked whether there were any land-related issues in his constituency, Abdul Karim said that in the case of the land matter in Tambirat, the government had agreed to acquire the land in question.
“There are four lots involved in the Tambirat area, and for all of them, the government will proceed with acquisition and compensation payments to the landowners.
“Through JTS, we will arrange new boundaries with proposals either to maintain them at the current location or to include them in the village expansion scheme,” he added.
