SARIKEI: A total of 67 Scout Commissioners and leaders from Julau and Pakan were honoured with the 111th Year Commemorative Medals of Scouting in Sarawak.

The presentation ceremony, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Pakan District Office on Saturday (July 11), recognised recipients for their dedicated service, commitment and outstanding contributions to strengthening the Scout Movement in Sarawak.

Seventeen recipients received the Gold Category Medal, while 23 received the Silver Category Medal and 27 were presented with the Bronze Category Medal.

Julau District Scout Commissioner, Chendang Kayong headed the list of Gold Category recipients in recognition of his exemplary leadership and significant contributions to developing the Scout Movement in the district.

The medals were presented by Sarawak Scout Council vice president, National Scout Council member and Malaysian Scout Foundation chairman, Col. Juma’at Ibrahim.

In his address, Juma’at congratulated the recipients and said the award was not only a recognition of their unwavering service but also a responsibility to continue strengthening Scouting as a credible youth development movement.

He urged all recipients to continue serving with sincerity, commitment and enthusiasm in advancing the Scout Movement while contributing to Sarawak’s continued progress as a prosperous and respected state.

According to him, the Sarawak Scout Movement has successfully produced many distinguished and capable leaders, including the Head of State and the Premier, both of whom were once Scouts.

Juma’at also referred to the Premier’s remarks during the recent ground-breaking ceremony for the Tun Openg Building, the new headquarters of the Sarawak Scout Association, where the Premier shared that his experience as a Scout had instilled the leadership qualities, discipline and resilience that became the foundation of his success in leading Sarawak’s development.

Juma’at therefore called upon all medal recipients to regard the honour as a source of renewed inspiration to intensify efforts in strengthening Scout membership at the district level through the establishment of more Scout Groups, expanding the Community-Based Scouting Programme, and producing more young leaders with integrity and vision.

He expressed confidence that with the continued commitment of Scout Commissioners and leaders throughout the state, the Sarawak Scout Movement would continue to grow as a leading youth development institution and serve as a platform for nurturing future leaders of strong character, resilience, and deep love for their religion, community, and nation.
