KUCHING: A total of 72 lots has been allocated to entrepreneurs at Medan Niaga Satok in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan bazaar.

Chief Political Secretary to the Premier, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said that while Ramadan bazaars usually begin on the first day of fasting, this year the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is taking a different approach by starting earlier.

“The early start allows traders to familiarise themselves with the setup and make the necessary preparations before the fasting month begins.

“At the same time, visitors can come earlier to sample a variety of food and beverages ahead of Ramadan.

“With a bazaar like this, people can look for options such as sweeter drinks, less sweet drinks, affordable food, and traders can better prepare themselves for doing business during Ramadan,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during the Media Tour Bazar Ramadan Medan Niaga Satok and the officiation of the ‘Jualan Agro Sarawakku Sayang’ (JASS) programme today (Feb 15).

The 72 lots have been allocated to entrepreneurs, comprising 14 for beverages, 18 for fried food, 17 for main dishes (lauk-pauk), 15 for traditional cakes and desserts (kuih-muih), and eight for grilled food.

Organised annually by FAMA Sarawak, 2026 Ramadan Medan Niaga Satok offers more than 400 types of food, including modern and traditional kuih-muih, as well as 120 varieties of beverages, providing a wide selection for visitors throughout the Ramadan season.

In addition to Medan Niaga Satok, FAMA Sarawak is also organising a Ramadan bazaar in the Sibu Division at Pasar Tani Kekal (PTK) Permai, which provides 20 business lots.

The Satok bazaar involves 72 traders with a sales target of RM1.9 million, while the Sibu bazaar has 20 traders with a target of RM200,000.

Together, the two bazaars involve 92 traders with a total sales target of RM2.1 million

Meanwhile, under the JASS programme, the Sarawak Government has allocated funds through FAMA to subsidise essential items, ensuring chicken, eggs and rice that are sold at affordable prices for the local community.

Today, a special combo Agro MADANI promotions include around 300 chickens, 300 trays of eggs, and around 300 packages containing 5kg of rice, sugar and FAMA honey, primarily for entrepreneurs.

“This is part of the Sarawak Government’s continuous effort to assist the people in terms of welfare and livelihood.

“This is not the first time such a programme has been organised. Many were held last year, and it is being continued this year to give back to the people through food subsidies,” he said.

Also present were FAMA Sarawak director Norsalawaty Abdul Kadir and FAMA Sarawak  Food Security and Operations Division deputy director Greyston Peli.
