LUNDU: A total of 741 residents here received confirmation letters for participation in a Native Customary Rights (NCR) land development project, in an effort to strengthen land ownership and improve local agricultural infrastructure.
According to Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, the recipients comprised 121 residents from Kampung Kendaie and 620 from Kampung Selampit.
He added that following the issuance of these letters, land ownership matters will be handled by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department for further processing.
He said this when met by reporters after presenting the confirmation letters during an event held at the Kampung Selampit Multipurpose Hall today.
He emphasised that the initiative is crucial to ensuring the long-term security of land ownership for Bumiputera communities involved in the project, implemented through joint ventures under the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) oversight.
“The letters serve as a vital reference for both participants and their heirs, enhancing confidence in their land ownership rights ahead of receiving official titles from the Land and Survey Department,” he said.
Meanwhile, Billy also mentioned that the upgrading of a 540-meter-long agricultural road in the area is expected to benefit residents from a total of 58 villages.
The project, he said, is funded by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
“All 58 villages are included. None were left out in this agricultural road initiative.
“While I can’t provide every household with crops like pineapples, pepper or coffee due to the sheer number of people, by building these roads, we empower them to cultivate the land on their own,” he said.
The upgraded agricultural road is expected to significantly ease access and support local farmers in improving productivity, ultimately contributing to increased household incomes and sustainable rural development in this district.
