A TOTAL of 13,763 cases, or 75 per cent of all registered Native Court cases since 1992 have been settled.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said the achievement reflects the dedication and integrity of Native Court presiding officers in handling matters that often involve complex customary laws and sensitive community issues.

“The Native Courts of Sarawak continue to demonstrate commendable performance in the discharge of judicial duties. Our presiding officers have consistently shown dedication, diligence and integrity in managing cases,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech in the State Legislative Assembly yesterday (Dec 1).
Sikie stressed that their steadfast commitment underscores the state’s ongoing efforts to uphold justice, strengthen the administration of native law and protect the rights and interests of Sarawak’s diverse communities.
As of October this year, a total of 18,233 cases have been registered across all levels of the Native Courts throughout Sarawak since 1992.
Of these, 4,470 cases (25 per cent) remain at various stages of the process.
“The Native Courts of Sarawak is making every effort to ensure that these remaining cases are resolved promptly and efficiently,” he added.
