KUCHING: A 79-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a Perodua Alza while walking along Jalan Field Force, Batu Kawa, last night(Sept 16).

The accident occurred at about 7.22pm near the junction of Lorong Field Force 3.

The victim, identified as Ibrahim Abdullah alias Muhi Majang from Kampung Segedup, Jalan Batu Kawa, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8.32pm by an assistant medical officer from Sarawak General Hospital.

Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said based on the preliminary police investigations and dashcam footage, the 36-year-old driver was travelling alone from Batu Kawa towards Petra Jaya when the vehicle struck the victim.

“The driver was travelling straight in the left lane when he collided with the pedestrian, who was walking in the middle of the road in the same lane. The impact caused the victim to be thrown onto the road.

“Police said preliminary investigations found that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence at the time of the incident,” he said in his statement.

He added that the Perodua Alza involved was also found to have had its road tax and insurance expired since Oct 30, 2025.

“The driver, who was uninjured in the accident, was detained for further investigation, while the vehicle was also detained for inspection by Puspakom,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have also photographed the scene and are seeking witnesses to assist in the investigation.

The accident caused traffic congestion in the area, with traffic control subsequently carried out by Padawan police.
