SIBU: Residents of the Banyan Mawan Longhouse at Sungai Wong Ulu Mukah can now breathe a sigh of relief, as their longhouse has been equipped with 80 JE-50 fire extinguishers to enhance community safety against the risk of fire.
The fire extinguishers were handed over to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Banyan Mawan Longhouse on April 14 through the Minor Rural Project allocation initiative by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
Longhouse Chief Banyan Mawan, when met, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Gira for his concern regarding the safety of the residents.
“On behalf of all the residents and the JKKK of this longhouse, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to YB Ir Christopher Gira Sambang for his genuine concern for the safety and wellbeing of the people in this area,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gira, in a statement on Sunday (May 4), stressed that the provision of fire extinguishers is a vital step in early preparedness for any potential fire incidents.
“These extinguishers are crucial for immediate response in the event of a fire while waiting for the arrival of the fire and rescue services.
“I urge the residents to always remain vigilant about the importance of having and properly maintaining this equipment so that it can be used effectively during emergencies,” he said.
He also congratulated the JKKK of the Banyan Mawan Longhouse for their commitment and dedicated efforts in installing all the fire extinguishers in an orderly and effective manner throughout the longhouse.
This initiative is expected to enhance the residents’ preparedness and minimise the risk of loss should any fire incidents occur in the future.
