SIMANGGANG: A forest fire that broke out along Jalan Kejatau-Lingga two days ago has spread across an estimated 80 hectares, with firefighters continuing their efforts to contain the blaze today (Aug 12).
So far, firefighters from Sri Aman station has managed to put out the fire across about 20 hectares, leaving an estimated 60 hectares still affected.
The extinguishing operation entered its third day today, with nine firefighters heading to the scene at 8.30 am to resume efforts to contain the blaze.
It was reported that strong winds have made the situation more challenging as they made the fire spread quickly.
The team is also dealing with limited open water sources such as drains and narrow access roads. Lack of telecommunications coverage at the site has also posed difficulties for the operation.
At the time of writing, the operation remains ongoing.
