KUCHING: A total of 810 recipients yesterday received Ramadan contributions at Masjid Darul Hana, Petra Jaya here.
The contributions were jointly organised by Pantai Damai Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Santubong Service Centre and the Special Affairs Department (JASA).
The presentation ceremony was officiated by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Dato Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar. The recipients comprised elderly folks, orphans, poor children and the disabled from Seberang Hilir and Santubong areas.
Meanwhile, touching on the food wastage, especially during the Ramadan season, Junaidi proposed that the untouched food at buffets in hotels be distributed to the needy.
“50 per cent of the food in hotel buffets is wasted. That is why the buffet charges are high.
“We, in Malaysia, should be grateful for what we have compared to the people in other countries. Let us be moderate during Ramadan to reduce food wastage,” he said.
Also present was Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
