MATU: A total of 82 students, including six special education students, were celebrated at the Majlis Khatam Al-Quran ceremony held at the SK Bawang Tian’s hall in Kampung Tian on Wednesday.
The annual school event, organised collaboratively by the school and the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), aims to instill a love for the Quran and encourage students to read and complete the Quran.
“I congratulate the initiative and spirit of teachers and parents in making today’s event successful because in achieving any objective, close cooperation between the school and parents is essential for the school to progress and excel,” said Igan MP Ahmad Johnie.
He emphasised the role of teachers in imparting knowledge, which is fundamental to shaping an individual’s character.

The event included a procession of 21 decorated vehicles and six adorned palanquins to transport participants, student Nasheed performances, and Marhaban presentations by teachers of the school.
Mariam Len, chairman of PIBG SK Bawang Tian, said the event maintained traditional practices such as the palanquin procession, Marhaban, and the presentation of floral tributes to Quran teachers, ensuring these traditions are preserved over time.
Also present at the event were Asri Dolah, Matu District Pemanca, community leaders, and parents of students from SK Bawang Tian.
