KUCHING: A late-night immigration operation targeting illegal foreign workers in Sebuyau and Simunjan resulted in the arrest of 86 foreigners suspected of breaching Malaysia’s immigration laws.
The Sarawak Immigration Department carried out the two-day ‘Ops Sapu’ from 8 pm on Tuesday until 7 am today (July 8) after acting on public complaints and intelligence gathered.
Enforcement teams raided three locations, comprising workers’ quarters in Sebuyau and shared residences at oil palm plantations in Simunjan, where foreign workers were believed to be residing illegally.
A total of 93 people were screened during the operation, with 86 of them detained for further investigation.

The detainees are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for allegedly failing to possess valid travel documents or passes and for overstaying their permitted period of stay in the country.
Aside from that, the team also issued a witness summons to facilitate ongoing probe.
The department said they will intensify enforcement operations statewide to track down immigration offenders and curb illegal immigration activities.
Members of the public are encouraged to continue channelling information on undocumented migrants and other unlawful activities to assist enforcement efforts in safeguarding public security and the nation’s sovereignty.
