BINTULU: The adrenaline will be pumping here as 88 amateur and semi-pro fighters step into the ring for the PS Muaythai Challenge.
It is set to ignite Sapphire Gym Fitness 69 & Combat Sports Gym from April 11 to 12.
Leading the charge is host club, PS Muaythai Bintulu, fielding the largest contingent with 36 fighters.
Close behind are Petanak Beach Muaythai Club from Mukah with 10 fighters, and Muaythai Club Singa 30 (Miri) and D30 Muaythai Club (Miri) with eight fighters each.
Warmonger Training Academy Miri jumps into the mix with seven fighters, while Sematan Muaythai Club and Bau Muaythai Club each bring six contenders to the mat.
Also making their presence felt are Phoenix Meranek (four), Vixx Fitness Bintulu (two) and SS Fighter Kuching (one) – proving that muaythai is alive and thriving across Sarawak.
The two-day tournament, organised by PS Muaythai Bintulu in collaboration with the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) and the Malaysian Muaythai Association (PMM), is held with the support of the Sarawak Youth and Sports Ministry as well as Rakan Muda.
According to PMNS President, Jumaat Ibrahim, the event is part of a broader mission to scout and develop new talent under the association’s 2025 calendar.
“PMNS is fully committed to discovering fresh talent through platforms like the PS Muaythai Challenge.
“We greatly appreciate the support of our strategic partners who continue to help us elevate muaythai in the state,” he said.
Adding to the action, two side programmes kicked off the event today, namely Basic Muaythai Coaching Course and Muay Boran Seminar.
Both featured renowned instructors, Ajarn Ismail and Mohd Ali, sharing their expertise in Wai Kru and Mai Muay.
The climax comes tomorrow (April 12) when the gloves come on for 42 high-energy amateur and semi-pro bouts, running from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Spectators can catch the excitement live at the venue, or tune in via Facebook livestream on the Sarawak Muaythai Association or PGX pages.
